Electrical Inspections

A home inspection covers the electrical system, but home inspectors aren’t electricians, and their reports say so. When you need to know what’s really there, we look closer.

Before you buy a house

Nathan sees the electrical sections of home inspection reports. Some of what they flag isn’t a problem. Some of what they miss is. That’s not a knock on home inspectors, whose reports disclose that they aren’t qualified electricians. But if you’re about to buy a house, especially an older one, a surface-level look may not be enough.

We look at the things we find on service calls and upgrades: the panel and what’s been added to it, work that was done without a permit, and wiring that no longer meets code. See our panel upgrades page for the kinds of problems that turn up, including Federal Pacific panels.

Businesses and plants

Years ago, at Vector Electric, which had a partnership with the insurance company Hartford Steam Boiler, Nathan inspected commercial properties for the insurer, looking for hazards that had been lost track of, overlooked or neglected. We can do the same kind of survey for commercial and industrial buildings, so problems can be fixed before they turn into an incident.

Infrared scanning

A loose connection or an overloaded breaker gets hot before it fails. An infrared camera shows that heat, so we can find loose connections and panel problems while everything still works. It’s the same kind of fault as the overheating breaker we found on an office air conditioner, caught before anything trips.
